Umoja opened the new Learning Community space in the César E. Chávez Library and Learning Resource Center on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. The new space, which will be shared by other learning communities on campus, is located in L-106 on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center next to the Tutoring and Writing Centers.
The Umoja Open House was well attended and included a few special guests. In addition to SJCC’s Umoja Coordinator, Dedrick Griffin, and Umoja Counselor, Pamela Turner, the participants included Umoja’s Regional Coordinator, Phyllis Taylor Gulbransen, who got the party started with a call and response, and EVC’s Umoja Coordinator, Claudia Barbosa Egbuone, who was on hand to bless the space. EVC’s Umoja Counselor, Yolanda Hayes, and Program Specialist, Sean Dickerson, were also on hand for the celebration.
Umoja students filled the room with their invited guests to learn more about the program, its upcoming events, and the purpose of the new space. The Open House served up sandwiches with the program information and saw a number of interested new students
