SAN JOSE, Calif. \u2014 The San Jos\u00e9 City College Art Gallery opened a new exhibition featuring the work of Bay Area artist Rayos Magos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition, “Recuerdos y Ra\u00edces” (Memories and Roots)<\/em>, opened with a reception on Saturday, Aug<\/span>ust 23, at the Carmen Castellano Fine Arts Center on the SJCC campus. A closing reception and artist talk is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs through Sept. 26 during regular gallery hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magos, a native of San Jos\u00e9, is a mixed-media artist whose work encompasses collage, painting, textiles, and sculpture. His art is rooted in counseling psychology and expressive arts therapy, often drawing on themes of memory, spirituality, and social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRayos Magos\u2019s work is both personal and universal, weaving together cultural memory with contemporary identity,\u201d said Michelle Gregor, an SJCC art professor who helped bring the exhibition to campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magos is also a cultural ambassador for the City of San Jos\u00e9 and has served as an artist-in-residence at institutions such as the Montalvo Arts Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gallery is encouraging students and faculty across disciplines to attend the exhibition. Organizers stated that the show will appeal to individuals interested in art, history, engineering, psychology, and other related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SJCC Art Gallery is located in Building A on campus. Hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
