San Jos\u00e9 City College’s Theater Arts program showcased its latest musical last week; Cinderella Eats Beans and Rice<\/em>, a modern take of the Cinderella story. Instead of an evil step-sister, her name is Rosa and the most popular girl in middle school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Replacing the blonde, blue-eyed beauty we’ve come to know, we are introduced to a brown-haired, dark-skinned, Puerto Rican, belle named Cenicienta (Cinderella in Spanish). Most importantly, instead of the famous fairy godmother, we have a substitute stand-in while she is away on vacation, her husband, the fairy godfather in training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no sweet prince to fight over; alternatively, it is a chance to grab a spot on the best basketball team ran by the best basketball coach, Coach Prince.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This family-friendly musical keeps you laughing and thoroughly entertained with every scene, as an audience member, you’ll find yourself singing along to every song on the way home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the help of the SJCC Outreach Team, he cast also took the show on the road providing a performance for students who attend McKinley Elementary School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
