{"id":9430,"date":"2024-01-22T09:21:53","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T17:21:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/the-roar.net\/?p=9430"},"modified":"2024-01-22T09:21:54","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T17:21:54","slug":"san-jose-city-college-partners-with-nor-cal-college-promise-coalition-to-host-higher-education-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-roar.net\/?p=9430","title":{"rendered":"San Jos\u00e9 City College Partners with Nor Cal College Promise Coalition to Host Higher Education Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">San Jos\u00e9 City College (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sjcc.edu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SJCC<\/a>) will host the first San Jos\u00e9 Education Forum on April 26, 2024, in partnership with the Northern California College Promise Coalition (<a href=\"https:\/\/norcalpromisecoalition.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NCCPC<\/a>), San Jos\u00e9 State University, Santa Clara University,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/epc.ucsc.edu\/programs\/soap\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Jos\u00e9 Cal-SOAP Consortium<\/a>, and the San Jos\u00e9 Public Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this all-day in-person event at SJCC, education leaders and practitioners will meet to advance education equity and access in San Jos\u00e9 and explore collaborative solutions to address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Development of pathways (including dual enrollment)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Effective student and family engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Improving college affordability and financial aid access<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the most recent among many SJCC and NCCPC partnerships. On November 18, 2023, SJCC President Dr. Rowena Tomaneng gave a presentation and participated in a panel discussion at the Community College League of California Conference that focused on college, community, and city partnerships to end poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf, David Silver of California Volunteers Fund and NCCPC Steering Committee Chair, and Meredith Curry Nu\u00f1ez of NCCPC joined Tomaneng to discuss how colleges can build and strengthen their advocacy for cradle-to-career pipelines in their cities. Tomaneng highlighted the value of local college promise programs like San Jos\u00e9 Promise, Milpitas Promise, Oakland Promise, and Richmond Promise collaborating across city and county lines through collective impact coalitions like NCCPC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, she spoke of the importance of student and family engagement as early as kindergarten so families understand the value of education and the collective investments made by civic, community, education, and industry leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SJCC joined NCCPC as a steering committee member on July 1, 2023.
