Dan Pham, a former Vietnamese refugee who found his first foothold in America at San José City College, has established an endowment to support future engineering students. His gift honors the kindness that shaped his journey—from a life-saving stranger to the college that welcomed him.
San José City College went 3–0 at the Tipoff Tournament at Percy Carr Gym, defeating Palo Verde, Lassen, and Feather River behind balanced scoring, strong defense, and key bench contributions. Retired SJCC art professor Luis Gutierrez has established the Luis Gutierrez Fine Art Scholarship, awarding five $2,000 scholarships annually to art students transferring to four-year universities. Gutierrez, who taught painting and drawing for 28 years, says the fund honors the support he received and offers mentorship to future artists.
San José City College’s Jineen Laimon made history as the first woman to score in Jaguar football, kicking a field goal and two PATs in a 20-17 loss at Santa Rosa. QB Cedeno Chavez threw two TDs, but a last-second field goal sealed the defeat.
San José City fell 28–14 to College of the Sequoias at Jaguar Stadium. The Giants pulled away in the second half behind QB Payton Faker’s 305 yards and 3 TDs plus a 64-yard run by Mookie Gosby. Cedeno Chavez tossed a TD to Cody Ahola; Kai Wilson added another.
