Lady jags decisive win sends them to next round

In a commanding performance on Saturday, San José secured a decisive victory over Santa Rosa with a final score of 75-46 at the Percy Carr Gym. The game highlighted San José’s excellent shooting and teamwork, propelling them to an impressive 27-2 record and the next round of the CCCAA Regional Playoffs. 

San José’s offensive prowess was evident from the start, as they took an early lead with a 25-15 advantage in the first quarter. Although Santa Rosa narrowed the gap slightly in the second quarter, San José’s relentless pace and strategic play ensured they maintained control throughout the game. The third quarter saw San José extend their lead significantly, outscoring Santa Rosa 21-9, which effectively sealed the game in their favor.

Key players for San José included Synise Byrd, who led the team with 21 points, including five successful three-pointers. Tatiana Collazo contributed 17 points and showcased her versatility with three three-pointers and six free throws. Alyssa Malla was instrumental in facilitating plays, dishing out 10 assists while adding 15 points to the scoreboard. Hayley Johnson dominated the boards, securing 16 rebounds and adding 14 points.

Santa Rosa struggled with shooting, managing only 27.3% from the field and a mere 13.6% from beyond the arc. Ivy Gonzalez was the top scorer for Santa Rosa, achieving a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kaia Eubanks also made a notable effort, contributing 11 points and seven rebounds.

San José’s shooting accuracy of 42.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range, coupled with their effective ball movement, which resulted in 17 assists, underscored their dominance in the game. Despite a close battle in rebounds, with Santa Rosa edging out San José 42-41, it was San José’s efficient execution and lower turnover rate that ultimately secured their victory.

The Lady Jags are ranked 10th in the state and will face No. 9 Folsom Lake at Percy Carr Gym on Saturday, March 8. The winner will advance to the CCCAA final eight tournament to compete for the state championship.
