SJCC Faculty Facilitates Understanding of Latinx History & Mesoamerican Music

As part of Latinx Heritage Month, the Professional Development Committee, Chicana/o Studies, and Music Department conducted  Latinx History 101 workshops with Jesus Covarrubias, Andres Rodriguez and Juan Gamboa

The workshops answered many questions about Latinx History and the importance of Mesoamerican indigenous music. More than 100 SJCC students enjoyed amazing lecture-demonstrations that took them on a journey through the music of ancient Mesoamerica!

Professors Gamboa and Covarrubias performed and shared an array of Indigenous flutes and percussion instruments with the audience.  Their presentations focused on how Mesoamerican music embodies Indigenous reverence for balance with all living things–“Ometeotl”.
