Eight banners honoring Cesar Chavez were installed on light poles around the entrance to our library that was named in his honor in 2000. The artwork was provided by the Chavez Foundation, which displayed similar banners recently at the State Capitol.
The banners convey #CesarsWords which focus on quotes from the iconic late labor leader who founded the United Farm Workers Union (UFW). The work is sponsored, in part, by the Latino Education Association and SJECCD.
We would like to thank Cesar’s grandson Andres Chavez and his father Paul for working with our campus to bring the inspiring words and images to our campus. They convey a universal message of non-violent organizing, activism, and social justice. Si Se Puede!
