Cinderella Eats Rice and Beans a Big Success on Campus and in the Community

San José City College’s Theater Arts program showcased its latest musical last week; Cinderella Eats Beans and Rice, a modern take of the Cinderella story. Instead of an evil step-sister, her name is Rosa and the most popular girl in middle school.

Replacing the blonde, blue-eyed beauty we’ve come to know, we are introduced to a brown-haired, dark-skinned, Puerto Rican, belle named Cenicienta (Cinderella in Spanish). Most importantly, instead of the famous fairy godmother, we have a substitute stand-in while she is away on vacation, her husband, the fairy godfather in training.

There is no sweet prince to fight over; alternatively, it is a chance to grab a spot on the best basketball team ran by the best basketball coach, Coach Prince.

This family-friendly musical keeps you laughing and thoroughly entertained with every scene, as an audience member, you’ll find yourself singing along to every song on the way home.

With the help of the SJCC Outreach Team, he cast also took the show on the road providing a performance for students who attend McKinley Elementary School.

The performing arts program has done such a great job and kudos to everyone who went to support them! We all look forward to the next musical next semester, in 2020, Little Shop of Horrors!
