City College Times Wins Journalism Awards

San Jose City College’s very own journalism department is on the rise with six awards given to staff on November 16th. The City College Times won the awards at the 2019 JACC NorCal Conference at San Jose State University.

Generously, a journalist friend had paid for every students’ registration fees so those invited could attend the conference. In attendance, there were about 180 students from 18 Norther California colleges as well as, Mr. Brennon Dixson (a former City College Times editor in 2014-2015 and a current reporter at Santa Monica Daily Press) who was a proud speaker at the conference.

Here is a list of the awards our outstanding journalism department won:

  • Editorial Cartoon, on-the-spot contest, first place — Magnolia Lonero
  • Feature photo, on-the-spot contest, second place — Steve Hill
  • Copy Editing, on-the-spot contest, honorable mention — Steve Hill

The next three-day State Convention will be next year, 2020, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Hotel on March 19-21.
