jaguars beat Rams, 61-10, extending win streak

For the first time since 2010, the San José City College Jaguars won their sixth game of the season with a 61-10 victory over the Gavilan Rams. The Jags are now at the top of the American Golden Coast Conference for the first time in 13 years.   

 The Jaguars dominated the game from the start, scoring 21 points in the first quarter alone. The first touchdown came from a 26-yard pass from quarterback Trent Cousens to Zion Owens. The extra point by Owen Lagos was good, giving the Jaguars a 7-0 lead.   

 The second touchdown came from a 53-yard run by Jesse R. Lajes, followed by a successful extra point by Matt Mirton. The Jaguars extended their lead to 14-0. The third touchdown of the quarter came from a 33-yard interception return by Coley Smith, with Lagos adding the extra point. The Jaguars ended the first quarter with a commanding 21-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Gavilan finally managed to get on the scoreboard with a 20-yard field goal by Pedro Quintana. The Rams’ drive consisted of 7 plays and covered 53 yards, taking 15 minutes off the clock. However, the Jaguars quickly responded with a 45-yard field goal by Mirton. The Jaguars then scored another touchdown, this time from a 1-yard run by Lajes, with Mirton adding the extra point. The Jaguars entered halftime with a comfortable 31-3 lead.  

 The third quarter saw the Jaguars continue to dominate the game. Owens caught his second touchdown pass, a 33-yard pass from Cousens. However, the extra point attempt failed. Gavilan scored their first touchdown of the game with a 13-yard run by Adrian Carrillo, with Quintana adding the extra point.   

 The Jaguars quickly regained control, with Anthony Jones catching a 27-yard touchdown pass from Cousens, followed by a successful extra point by Mirton. Cousens scored a touchdown with an 11-yard run, with Mirton adding the extra point. The Jaguars ended the third quarter with a commanding 51-10 lead.

 In the final quarter, the Jaguars continued to extend their lead with a 42-yard field goal by Mirton. They then scored their final touchdown with a 9-yard run by Will Augenstein, with Mirton adding the extra point. The game ended with a resounding victory for the San José City College Jaguars, with a final score of 61-10.  

 The win improved the Jaguars’ record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. On the other hand, the loss dropped the Gavilan Rams to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.  

Overall, the game showcased the dominance of the San José City College Jaguars, both offensively and defensively. Their offense racked up 553 yards, including 274 on the ground and 279 in the air. The Jag defense generated two sacks and five interceptions, limiting Gavilan to 203 yards of total offense.
