Coming off a three-game sweep in the Tip-Off Classic Tournament, the Jaguar men’s basketball team did not lose a beat as they claimed a win (79-56) over the Diablo Valley College Vikings at Percy Carr Gym.
The game started at a fast pace, with both teams eager to gain an early advantage. The Jaguars took an early lead in the first half, scoring 42 points compared to DVC’s 38 points. Marshawn Smith of Diablo Valley led the scoring for his team, contributing 12 points in the first half.
As the second half began, the Jaguars turned up the intensity and started to pull away from The Vikings. They outscored their opponents 37-18 in the second half, securing their victory. King Calhoun had an outstanding performance for SJCC, scoring a game-high 19 points and hitting three three-pointers. Tariq Weiser also played a crucial role in the Jaguars’ victory, contributing 6 assists and 6 steals.
Despite their best efforts, Diablo Valley struggled to keep up with SJCC’s offensive firepower. They shot 36.8% from the field and were unable to connect on any of their thirteen three-point attempts. On the other hand, the Jaguars shot an impressive 47.8% from the field and made 35.7% of their three-point attempts.
Both teams displayed solid defensive efforts, with SJCC recording 8 steals and 3 blocks, while The Vikings managed to record 13 steals and 1 block. However, the Jaguars’ ability to capitalize on their offensive opportunities and control the game’s tempo ultimately proved to be the difference-maker.
Overall, it was an exciting game between Diablo Valley College and SJCC City College. the Jaguars’ strong second-half performance and efficient shooting ultimately led them to a convincing victory.
