Stories of Resilience Take Center Stage at SJCC’s 103rd Commencement

San Jose City College held its 103rd annual commencement Thursday, with more than 450 students crossing the stage. The Class of 2026 includes 621 students earning 1,051 associate degrees and 643 students earning 753 certificates, ranging in age from 13 to 78. Valedictorian Ganna Zgama, a Ukrainian immigrant accepted to UC Berkeley, and ASG President Hazel Tran addressed graduates.

SJCC Students Star in New TV Campaign Promoting Career Education Programs

San José City College students are starring in a new television campaign airing on Comcast network channels across San José. Funded through Business and Workforce Development, the commercials promote the new Career Education Complex and programs in Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, CIS, and CGID — all tied to SJCC’s “Find Your SPOT” brand.

Decades Later, They Still Call Her Coach

San José City College honored retiring softball coach Debbie Huntze-Rooney on April 25 with a campus celebration attended by dozens of former players, many flying in from out of state. After 34 seasons, 949 career wins, and 10 Coast Conference championships, Huntze-Rooney leaves as one of California’s winningest active female softball coaches.

Spring ROAR Days Draw Record 300+ Students to SJCC

San José City College’s Spring ROAR Days welcomed more than 300 incoming students April 15, 16 and 18 — a 53% increase over last year. Nine campus departments participated in a resource fair, the Robert N. Chang Center offered extended hours including Saturday service, and counselors and staff volunteers were on hand throughout.

SJCC Celebrates the Career Education Complex, Marking Largest Campus Investment in Decades

San José City College celebrated the completion of its Career Education Complex on April 15 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by students, community members, and elected officials. The four-story, 91,000-square-foot building has been in use since January, with approximately 140 course sections underway — representing a $188 million investment in workforce education.
