Spring Semester may be over, but summer at San José City College is still busy with Summer Session, METAS Summer Bridge, and STEM opportunities.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math majors still calculating how to make the most of their summer should check out San José City College’s STEM Summer Camp.
The camp will run from July 31 to Aug. 18 to help students prepare for precalculus in the fall semester while participating in fun and interactive engineering and computer science projects.
The program also includes field trips, and speakers will be coming in to share their experiences. Free lunch will be provided daily; best of all, students will receive $1,500 upon completion.
The SJCC STEM Camp focuses on incoming high school students, but any STEM student taking precalculus in the fall is eligible. The typical day at camp starts at 9:00 am ending at 3:30 pm. The mornings will be dedicated to the Precalculus prep course, and afternoons will focus on fun, interactive computer science and engineering projects.
Students will learn from the best, including SJCC Math Instructor Gabriela Rios, who will teach Precalculus. San José State University and Cisco instructors will facilitate the computer science and engineering projects. The camp will also organize field trips to SJSU and CISCO headquarters and bring in a special guest speaker from NASA.

SJSU/SJCC Summer Internship for MESA Students
On June 12, seven SJCC students from the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program started a 10-week internship at SJSU.
Each student intern is paired with an SJSU Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering faculty member to conduct research and showcase it at a poster symposium at the end of the internship. The final research topics include microfluidics, mechatronics, robotics, semiconductor fabrication, computer vision, and deep learning.
MESA is also recruiting incoming first-year students for the fall who want to pursue STEM studies to transfer to four-year universities and colleges.
