Jaguars thrill Fans with a commanding win

After a three-game winning streak on the road, the San José City College Jaguars brought their hot hand home, trouncing the Yuba College 49ers, 50-18.

Over 600 fans filled the stands on a warm October night to see their team roar back from its disappointing first-week loss at home on Sept. 9.

SJCC got off to a strong start, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter under the lights at Jaguar Stadium.

The first score came at 14:12 when Jake Taddie caught a 15-yard pass from Trent Cousens. The extra point by Roland Legaspi gave the Jags a 7-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later, Jesse R. Lajes ran for a 2-yard touchdown, and Owen Lagos converted the extra point to extend San José’s lead to 14-0.

The Jags continued their dominance in the second quarter, adding another touchdown and a field goal. Issac Nirza scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown at the 9:42 mark, and Matt Mirton’s extra point made it 21-0 in favor of San José.

As the clock wound down in the second quarter, Owen Lagos kicked a 20-yard field goal, capping off a 16-play, 90-yard drive and giving the Jaguars a commanding 24-0 lead heading into halftime.

Yuba managed to find some success in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns. Trevor Hargis connected with Charles Johnson for a 10-yard touchdown pass at 11:25.

However, the 2-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 24-6. The Jaguars responded with a 43-yard field goal by Mirton with 9:30 on the clock, extending their lead to 27-6. Later in the quarter, the Jaguar defense recorded a safety, adding two more points to their lead.

Lajes then ran for a 1-yard touchdown, and Lagos converted the extra point, making it 36-6 in favor of the Jags. Yuba scored one more touchdown in the third quarter when Hargis found Jack Daskam for a 16-yard pass. However, the 2-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 36-12.

San José quickly responded with a spectacular 55-yard touchdown pass from Cousens to Zion Owens, and Mirton’s extra point made it 43-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, Yuba scored one more touchdown when Hargis connected with Ismael Sloan for a 37-yard pass. However, the 2-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 43-18.

The Jags sealed the victory with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Cousens to Anthony Jones, and Owen Lagos converted the extra point, bringing the final score to 50-18 in favor of San José.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Jaguars, who controlled the game from start to finish. The Jaguar offense fired on all cylinders, scoring touchdowns through the air and the ground. Their defense also played a crucial role, recording a safety and limiting Yuba’s scoring opportunities.

In their last four games, the Jaguars have outscored their opponents 126-75, amassing its best record in recent memory at this point in the season. The team hosts conference rival Merced College at Jaguar Stadium on Sat., Oct. 14, with kick-off at 6 p.m.
