Jaguars win on the road against skyline 3-2

Skyline College and San José City College match was a closely contested battle that went down to the wire. In the end, San José emerged with a 3-2 win over Skyline.

The match took place at San Bruno on October 4, 2023, with a start time of 6:30 PM. Both teams came into the game with high expectations and were eager to secure a win.

The match’s final score was 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 15-8 in favor of San José. The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams displaying their skills and determination.

The Jaguars had a slight edge in terms of their attacking prowess. They recorded 30 kills, with Jessalyn Rugnao leading the way with an impressive 21 kills.

Nancy Huynh and Savonah Davis also contributed significantly to the team’s offensive output, with 14 and 7 kills, respectively.

On the other hand, Skyline needed help finding consistency in their attacks. They managed 27 kills, with Sasha Grett leading the team with 16 kills. Jamie Cabral and Kelly Campbell also made valuable contributions, with 7 kills each.

In terms of serving, both teams were evenly matched. San José recorded 6 service aces, with Rugnao, Huynh, and Tasia Su’a each contributing with 3, 1, and 1 aces, respectively. On the other hand, Skyline had 13 service aces, with Ja’Lani Foster leading the way with an impressive seven aces.

The blocking game was relatively quiet, with both teams recording minimal blocks. The Jags had two blocks, while Skyline managed four blocks. Isabel Bernardo and Sasha Grett were the standout blockers for Skyline, each contributing with one block.

Defensively, both teams displayed great effort in digging the opponent’s attacks. San José recorded 118 digs, with Rugnao leading the way with an impressive 29 digs.

Jenny Huynh also made a significant contribution with 11 digs. Skyline recorded 77 digs, with Nyssa Carvajal leading the team with 34 digs. Phoebe Zhang and Kelly Campbell also made valuable contributions, with 11 digs each.

Overall, it was a thrilling and closely fought match between Skyline College and San José City College. Both teams displayed their skills and determination throughout the game. San José’s attacking prowess and defensive efforts ultimately proved the difference as they emerged victorious with a 3-2 win.
